 “Starting Your Own Journal or Press”

10:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m.

This panel featuring publishing professionals will cover the ins and outs of establishing a presence in publishing. How do you start a journal or press? How do you assemble a team for the journal? How much does it cost? Non-profit status? What separates a journal or press from the pack? Two incredible writers and editors, Karen Babine of Assay and Jeff Alessandrelli of Fonograph Editions, will discuss all of that and more.

 FUSE is happy to welcome Rob Spillman, co-founder and former editor of Tin House, as our keynote speaker.

During this hour feel free to refresh, there are no panels.

"Literary Internships"

1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.

What can you expect from interning at an independent press? In this panel, we'll hear from several former Hamline University MFA students who've interned at Graywolf Press, Coffee House Press, Milkweed Editions, and WiseInk Publishing. We'll learn how to put the skills developed working at a literary magazine to use and hear some tips on how to become a competitive candidate in the field.
